UArizona Faculty and Student Honored for Commitment to Global Education

University of Arizona Global
December 2, 2019

UArizona Global is pleased to share that, at a ceremony and reception on Friday, November 20, two University of Arizona faculty members and one undergraduate student received this year's University of Arizona Global Excellence Awards.

Robert Côté, director of the Writing Skills Improvement Program, was recognized with the Award for Excellence in Global Education. Melissa Fitch, University Distinguished Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, received the Award for Excellence in Global Service. Lily Chavez, a senior majoring in creative writing and global studies, received the 2019 Student Award for Global Excellence.

The annual awards are sponsored by the Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) and UArizona's Global Department and are selected from nominations by the University and Southern Arizona community. The awards recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves locally, regionally, or nationally as being committed to global education and engagement. It is a tradition to announce the winners of the Global Excellence Awards during International Education Week in November.

Brent White, dean of global campuses and vice provost for global affairs, and Sumayya Granger, associate director of the Center for English as a Second Language, presented the awards at a reception in the Stevie Eller Dance Theatre.
