Unemployment Insurance Fraud
We've shared recommendations on how to protect your online identity, accounts, and passwords. While cybercrime is still an active threat, criminals are using some traditional techniques to exploit the COVID-19 pandemic as well.
The University of Arizona has become aware that several of our employees have been subjected to mail fraud where a malicious actor has filed unemployment claims on their behalf. This is a crime occurring in many states across the country right now.
The University is in contact with the FBI and the Arizona Department of Economic Security regarding this matter, is monitoring the situation, and will provide updates if they become available.
If you think you may have been impacted by unemployment insurance fraud:
- Review guidance on the University's HR website.
- Contact the Arizona Department of Economic Security.
- Monitor your credit reports and consider putting a freeze on your credit.
- Report the identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission.
