A pedestrian path has been created around the Student Success District construction site to enable members of the campus community to safely access the Main Library, Bear Down Gymnasium and the Albert B. Weaver Science-Engineering Library.

The path runs along Fourth Street on the south, Highland Avenue on the west and the Mall on the north, stretching around the Main Library on the east, with a shortcut between the Main Library and Special Collections for those needing to get to Cherry Avenue.

Here's how to access each building and the areas around them:

  • Weaver Science-Engineering Library: The main entrance on the west side of the building, along Highland, is the only access point.
  • Bear Down Gym: The building's main entrance on the north side remains open. A west-facing entrance is open at the northwest corner of the gym. Two doors on the east side of the building are also open.
  • Main Library: A door on the north side of the building is the only access point.

The Student Success District aims to make a cohesive district among the three buildings and a new one, called the Student Success Building, which is being built immediately south of Bear Down Gym. The district will integrate and revitalize student services in that area.

Current work involves demolition to make way for new entrances to the buildings, said Melissa Dryden, senior program coordinator in Planning, Design and Construction. The pedestrian path will remain in place for at least the first half of the fall semester, Dryden said.

Construction on the Student Success District began in early 2019 and is expected to be completed by fall 2021.
