In the midst of unexpected circumstances, our colleagues may be struggling to get by as a result of prolonged hardship. While we continue to make strides as a community, the support of one another has never been more crucial to our success.

Unforeseen medical emergencies, family crisis, and sudden change in living expenses are a burden some weren’t financially equipped for.

As a result of the UA Cares initiative, an annual University of Arizona giving campaign, the Employees Helping Employees program offers any benefits-eligible faculty and staff to apply for a one-time disbursement of up to $750.

In the last ten years, the fund has supported more than one hundred employees and awarded more than $75,000 in emergency assistance.

The confidential application process is facilitated by a committee of faculty and staff, while the fund is coordinated by UA Cares in the Office of Multicultural Advancement.

"This fund is a longstanding initiative by employees for employees," said Karla Morales, Director of Multicultural Advancement. "The continuation of this effort has never been more important. We ask the wildcat community to give if you can, pledge if its within your means, and apply if you need help."

According to Karla, anyone can give a one-time gift through the UA Foundation, but payroll deduction is an additional way to donate to the Employees Fund. Faculty and staff may pledge a portion of their paycheck through UAccess and deposit any amount for any length of time.
