Learn About Publishing on The Conversation

The University of Arizona recently joined a number of the nation's most prestigious universities as a member of The Conversation, an independent, not-for-profit news source committed to communicating the work of scholars.

The Conversation's goal is to deliver accurate information directly to the public, with nothing taken out of context or otherwise filtered. The approach is to have professional editors work directly with faculty members and researchers to create compelling articles that shed light on timely topics through the lens of scholarship. The articles take the form of commentary and news analysis, and take on issues across the academic spectrum, from arts, culture and religion to science, health, politics, technology and the environment.

The Conversation makes all of its articles available at no charge to any news organization that wants to republish them. In addition, The Associated Press distributes The Conversation articles to newsrooms across the country.

Several faculty members have already published on The Conversation, including:

• Timothy Swindle, Apollo 12: Fifty years ago, a passionate scientist’s keen eye led to the first pinpoint landing on the Moon
• Daniel Apai, NASA’s TESS spacecraft is finding hundreds of exoplanets – and is poised to find thousands more
• Jeffrey Kucik, How America’s Founding Fathers felt about tariffs
• Linda R. Phillips and Lisa Marie O'Neill, Elder abuse increasing, without increased awareness

To date, more than 40 faculty members and researchers affiliated with the University have published more than 50 articles on The Conversation, garnering a cumulative 1.8 million reads. (See all of the articles and authors on The Conversation website.)

To help University of Arizona scholars better understand the process of publishing articles, representatives from The Conversation will visit campus Feb. 4-5. Faculty, researchers and communicators are encouraged to attend a session at their college, or any other session, and meet with University Relations Director Eric Zack and Science and Technology Editor Bijal Trivedi.
